My Life & My Pride

"At last I understood that writing was this: an impulse to share with other people a feeling or truth that I myself had." — Brenda Ueland

About Me

My Simple Autobiography

I was born in Cotabato City, Philippines on the 11th month of 1975. I still live in the city of Cotabato and finished my studies in Notre Dame University, Cotabato City and obtained my bachelor’s degree in Nursing. I passed the Nursing Licensure Exam in 1998 and started working abroad in hospital-based setting in the year 2000. I worked as a staff nurse in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and after 3 years and a half; I transferred to other hospital and worked as a staff nurse in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. After working abroad for 7 years and a half, I decided to go home. I got pregnant and gave birth to a most beautiful baby named Ethan Guiller.

My Personality

I'm very considerate. I truly value harmony in dealing with others. People recognize my friendly, generous, and helpful personality. My easy-going, agreeable nature makes me such a joy to be around. I'm considerate of other's feelings and I will find a happy medium in order to placate those around me. This is because I have an optimistic view of human nature and I realize that if I trust people with their decisions that they are not trying to hurt me or take advantage of me. I enjoy helping others. To me it is not a sacrifice; to me it is fulfilling to help others in need.

My Life

My name is Maria Sheryll Manuel and I grew up in Cotabato City. At a young age, I came to realize the importance of education and by the time I graduated High School, I decided to take up Nursing because it was in-demand at that time. After finishing College and passed the NLE, I stayed unemployed and just volunteering in some “kawang-gawa” projects without compensation, though I really enjoyed it. From there on I fully understood that to become a nurse is really my calling. Then after 2 years from being out-of-work, I was determined to find a job in a hospital. Luckily, I was able to apply and work as a nurse abroad.  I spent 3 and a half years in Bisha, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I was fortunately assigned in a special area. After my contract, I planned to transfer to a bigger hospital. I applied in King Abdul Aziz University Hospital in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and was accepted and allocated in a special area again but by this time it was on Pediatric ICU.

After how many years in Saudi Arabia, I had chosen to go home and have a simple life with my family. I became pregnant on March, 2008 and gave birth on November 2008. After seeing my son, a realization had shone on me, that no thing is greater to what I have now, my son, Ethan Guiller. So I decided not to come back abroad because I just couldn't think of going somewhere, away from him. Instead, I looked for a job here in my country and end up working at home (online job).

I am a proud single mom and my son is my LIFE.
